The Tuna tango, this week the blackfin tuna bite was as good as it gets they were eating live bait, fly's, lures just a bought anything you can throw out there. 240ft around some wrecks has been were the best action is.
The action on the reef is also hot and heavy with some nice size cero mackerels yellow tails and jacks keeping the rods bent.

FLATS
The permit fishing to the west is making for some great fly fishing opportunities although the last couple of days the water temp has lowered enough to push some of the permit of the flats.
They will be replaced on the cooler days bye large schools of jacks and barracudas.
Thanks for stopping bye,

Offshore

A few early tunas have been caught on the Atlantic side; they have been crashing minnows in 240ft of water. The best way to hook up is on lures, chasing them down and throwing in to them seems to be the best way.
Large yellowtails on the reef make for some very challenging fishing, they are very line shy these days light floro carbon leader is a must. Lots of cero mackerel along with the yellow tails. Chumming with live pilchards is defiantly the way to go this time of year.

Flats
With the recent wet weather the bone fishing has improved they like the cooler water on the flats .I have heard of large amounts of fish tailing in the evening, wading for them on low tide is a lot of fun.
Thanks for stopping bye.

Fishing is as good as it gets right now. There are lots of dolphin out in the blue water, with some fish up to 55lbs being caught .I have had some fun catching nice size dolphin on fly rods
Yellow Tail snappers are spawning on the reef along with a few nice size mutton snappers. The permit are on just about every wreck in the gulf and are very happy eating live crabs. Chuming in the harbour for tarpon has also been very productive.

FLATS

Tarpon every where, the wind calmed down last week and the tarpon moved in to the harbour and on to the edges of just about every flat on the south side of the keys. They do not seem to want to eat real well but that will change soon I hope. Cravalee jacks and sharks have filled in for the tarpon when they don"t want to eat. Most of the permit are still offshore spawning, they will start to move back to the flats in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for stopping bye.

It's been a very busy couple of weeks with kingfish being the main source of excitement.
The SKA tournament was a big success with 127 entered, you needed a 40# kingfish to get into the top 10. So you can imagine there was some big fish caught, 65# was the winner.
There were some nice catches of bottom fish this week, mutton snappers making up most of the catches with a few groupers mixed in.
Sailfish and tuna action is alittle slow although some of the live bait boats did well around mid week. Live bait is defiantly the way to go right now.

Flats

With the water warming up flats fish is hot, permit and big barracudas on the flats to the west But the big news is tarpon in and around keywest not only are they here, they are hungry.
Lets hope they stay around.
Thanks for stopping bye.

Blackfin tuna, sailfish and kingfish it really does not get any better than this. We have been anchoring in about 130 ft of the end of the bar, a very productive area about 18 miles to the west of keywest
It is important to have lots of live bait so you can chum as well as fish with them. I am looking forward to the SKA tournament this weekend, I did catch a couple of king fish in the mid 30s last week I hope my luck holds out

FLATS
The last 3 days have been quite warm and that is what the flats have needed, with reports of large schools of permit feeding on the flats to the west. The barracuda have been on the flats through the cold weather but now they are hungry.

Thanks for stopping bye
